The Bangor Buccaneers formed and joined the Softball Ulster league in 2014. The club’s first success came with winning the CT Shield in 2016 & a 3rd place podium finish in Division A of the Ulster league in 2022.
2016 saw the club membership grow enough to see the formation of a second team, the Mariners. Recruitment and retention issues plagued the club from 2016, and the Mariners folded and the club dropped back to one team. The Buccaneers had difficulties fielding a full squad until 2019, and the dreaded 9 player auto out was a constant threat.
Perseverance and investment in digital promotion saw a massive influx of players in 2022 enabling the formation of a second team, the Barracudas.
The club rebranded as North Down Softball Club in 2022 to better represent the goal of spreading softball across the local area.
Training and matches are held in Ward Park Bangor, Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings from March to October with additional training/social activities planned in the offseason.
