Smokin’ Aces

The Smokin’ Aces are one of the three teams in Belfast Softball Club, along with the Brawlers & Cyclones. Founded in 2007 the Smokin’ Aces were one of the original clubs in Softball Ulster. After winning the league in 2008 and 2010, the Smokin’ Aces have gone through several seasons of restructuring, bringing in many new players.

The Aces have been working to get back into contention to challenge for the league again. The current Aces are a fun-loving and enthusiastic bunch.  After a fight to avoid relegation in 2023, the Aces are looking to put forward a strong performance to show they belong in Division A. The Aces practice with the Brawlers & Cyclones on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 pm at Victoria Park, new members are always welcome.

Bangor Buccaneers vs Smokin' Aces

Brawlers

The Brawlers are one of three teams in Belfast Softball Club, along with the Smokin’ Aces and Cyclones. Founded in 2007 the Brawlers were one of the original two teams in Softball Ulster. The Brawlers have been the dominant team in Ulster recently, winning the league 9 times in the last 11 seasons. The Brawlers practice with the Smokin’ Aces and Cyclones on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30pm at Victoria Park, new members always welcome.

Bangor Mariners

Bangor Buccaneers Softball Club (Bucs and Mariners) are in their third season of existence; The Bucs were recipients of the Glorious SU Wooden Spoon in their rookie season, and followed up with a respectable 5th placed finish in their sophomore season, whilst also hosting their July blitz tournament “Buccfest” at Bangor Rugby Club with onsite bar, DJ and facilities!

From 2016 The Mariners have joined the fleet and will add a bit of spice to the league giving us a North Down derby! Currently the only Club to play home matches outside Belfast, The Buccaneers are making North Down a hub of Softball activity, being a sociable bunch of ballers, they are always looking to expand the Bucc’n family and enjoy sailing away to shores anew.

Bangor Buccaneers

The Bangor Buccaneers formed and joined the Softball Ulster league in 2014. The club’s first success came with winning the CT Shield in 2016 & a 3rd place podium finish in Division A of the Ulster league in 2022.

2016 saw the club membership grow enough to see the formation of a second team, the Mariners. Recruitment and retention issues plagued the club from 2016, and the Mariners folded and the club dropped back to one team. The Buccaneers had difficulties fielding a full squad until 2019, and the dreaded 9 player auto out was a constant threat.

Perseverance and investment in digital promotion saw a massive influx of players in 2022 enabling the formation of a second team, the Barracudas.

The club rebranded as North Down Softball Club in 2022 to better represent the goal of spreading softball across the local area.

Training and matches are held in Ward Park Bangor, Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings from March to October with additional training/social activities planned in the offseason.
