The key responsibilities of the Softball Ulster Chief Umpire include:
- Work directly with the Chairperson and SU Council to implement the rules of softball and maintain or develop the bylaws.
- Promote the valuable role of umpire within the region of Ulster.
- Liaise with the Secretary to review the bylaws in the pre-season and incorporate rule changes implemented by WBSC/ESF.
- Discuss any changes to the rules and regulations with the league umpires in the pre-season.
- Plan, organise and budget for umpire training courses.
- Liaise with the Competitions Officer to prepare a schedule of umpire cover for the regular SU league and SU tournaments.
- Liaise with individual teams to ensure that their home grounds are suitable and safe for league play, ensuring adequate insurance cover for SU league games.
- Liaise with the Treasurer in the ordering of new umpire equipment for league umpires.
- Liaise with the Secretary to circulate any information to umpires through club contacts.
- Maintain or develop the umpire match cards and ensure umpires email these to the Secretary and Competitions Officer after every game.
- Lead any disciplinary procedures in the region of Ulster.
