Season: 2009

Belfast Aviators

Belfast Aviators Softball Club was formed in July 2008. Training takes place on Sundays 2pm – 4pm and Wednesdays (April to August) 7pm – 9pm. The Aviators mission is to offer softball to the local community for all men and women aged 18 and over. Belfast Aviators Softball Club promotes slow pitch softball in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The teams are comprised of players living in and around Belfast that hail from Northern Ireland and all over the world!

Smokin’ Aces

The Smokin’ Aces are one of the two teams in Belfast Softball Club, along with the Brawlers. Founded in 2007 the Smokin’ Aces were one of the original clubs in Softball Ulster. After winning the league in 2008 and 2010, the Smokin’ Aces have gone through a number of seasons of restructuring, bringing in many new players. This year’s group of new players along with the more experienced Aces make an enthusiastic bunch with a great sense of team spirit. The Aces aim to develop this potential and experience in their new team throughout the season. The Aces practice with the Brawlers on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30pm at Henry Jones Playing Fields, new members always welcome.

Brawlers

The Brawlers are one of the two teams in Belfast Softball Club, along with the Smokin’ Aces. Founded in 2007 the Brawlers were one of the original two teams in Softball Ulster. The Brawlers have had a settled squad for the last few seasons with players from many different sporting backgrounds. This has helped them win the league in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018, and challenge for tournament honours. The Brawlers practice with the Smokin’ Aces on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30pm at Henry Jones Playing Fields, new members always welcome.

Belfast Sliders

The Belfast Sliders Softball Club was established in July 2009, initialy comprising of players completely new to the game softball following the “2009 Softball Ulster Introductory League”.  The Sliders’ relative inexexperience won them the wooden spoon in their first league appearances in 2009 and 2010, but never to remain the underdog they trained hard to become league winners in 2011, 2012 and 2015.  Training takes place on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm at Hydebank Playing Fields (Newtownbreda).  Home games are also played at Hydebank Playing Fields on Monday evenings from 7pm.

Leaving the softball aside, the Sliders also like to organise social events during the on- and off-season, and members are regular attenders at Softball Ulster organised events.  On an international level, three of our female players have payed for the Irish National Fast Pitch team, with one of them also playing for the Irish Co-Ed Slow Pitch team as well.  The current Softball Ulster Treasurer and Softball Ireland Ordinary Board Member are members of Belfast Sliders Softball Club.
